Overview

The Technics SU-8055 is a late-1970s stereo integrated DC amplifier rated at 47 watts per channel into 8 ohms. Introduced around 1979, it combines Technics’ direct-coupled amplifier engineering with the visual drama of fluorescent peak-power meters and a broad selection of source and recording controls.

Technics promoted the SU-8055 as a DC design because coupling capacitors were removed from the high-level signal path and feedback loop. The goal was improved waveform fidelity and extended low-frequency response. It also includes two phono inputs, with support for both moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges, plus two tape loops and a separate recording/playback selector.

Why This Model Matters

The SU-8055 came from a period when Technics offered a deep range of integrated amplifiers rather than only a few mass-market models. It sat in the middle of the lineup, below the larger SU-8077 and SU-8080-class amplifiers but above the simpler entry models.
