Overview

This three-piece Technics stack combines the SE-9060 stereo/mono power amplifier, SH-9010 paragraphic equalizer, and SU-9070 stereo preamplifier. Often identified by their abbreviated faceplate names—60A, 10E, and 70A—these components formed the core of Technics’ late-1970s 9000 Professional Series.

The SE-9060 is rated at 70 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 90 watts per channel into 4 ohms, or 180 watts in bridged mono operation. The SU-9070 is an unusually minimalist “flat” preamplifier, concentrating on source selection, level control, and signal purity rather than conventional tone controls. Tone shaping is handled by the SH-9010, a sophisticated five-band-per-channel paragraphic equalizer that allows both boost/cut and center-frequency adjustment.

Why This System Matters

The 9000 Professional Series was Technics’ answer to listeners who wanted serious separates in a compact, stackable format. Its black rack-style appearance, die-cast construction, wide-bandwidth circuitry, and modular approach stood apart from the large silver-face receivers that dominated the period.

Each component has a clear job. The SU-9070 keeps the basic signal path direct. The SH-9010 adds much more precise tonal correction than ordinary bass and treble controls. The SE-9060 supplies robust stereo power and can be converted to a higher-powered mono block. Together they create one of Technics’ most recognizable vintage component systems.
