Overview

The H.H. Scott 320R is a late-1970s stereo receiver introduced in 1978. Rated at 18 watts per channel into 8 ohms, it combines FM/AM tuning, a moving-magnet phono input, auxiliary and tape connections, and a straightforward silver-face control layout.

Why This Model Matters

The 320R was not built to compete with the giant receivers that dominated magazine covers in the same era. Instead, it represents the more practical side of late-1970s hi-fi: enough power for efficient speakers and normal rooms, useful source flexibility, and the familiar receiver format in a more compact and approachable package.

It also comes from a later chapter in the H.H. Scott story. The brand had earned its reputation through American-made tube amplifiers and early solid-state components, while the 320R was manufactured in Japan. That makes it less of a continuation of the classic Scott tube tradition and more an example of how established American audio names adapted to the global consumer-electronics market of the 1970s.
