Sansui TU-707

Overview

The Sansui TU-707 is an AM/FM stereo tuner produced in 1976–77. Visually and technically, it belongs to the same era as Sansui’s substantial black-faced integrated amplifiers, including the closely related AU-707 sold in Japan. Its large analog dial, solid controls, and purposeful layout give it the classic Sansui appearance enthusiasts associate with the company’s strongest 1970s separates.

Sansui designed the FM section around a wide-range ratio detector intended to reduce distortion, while the multiplex stage used PLL circuitry and negative feedback for stability and sound quality. Practical features include FM muting, a noise-canceler circuit, adjustable output level, and a built-in test oscillator useful when setting recording levels for off-air tapes.

The TU-707 reflects a period when Sansui treated the tuner as a serious source component rather than an accessory.
