Overview

The Sansui CA-2000 is a full-size stereo preamplifier introduced in 1976 and produced through the late 1970s. It belongs to Sansui’s respected Definition Series and was designed as the natural control-center partner for the BA-2000 power amplifier, sitting below the larger CA-3000 and BA-3000 combination.

Why This Model Matters

The CA-2000 comes from one of Sansui’s strongest periods for separate amplification. Rather than simply adapting the preamp section of an integrated amplifier, Sansui built a dedicated component with extensive source routing, serious phono facilities, and a robust power supply. Its black faceplate, large knobs, and rack-width chassis give it the purposeful appearance associated with the Definition Series.

Its feature set is notably comprehensive. The CA-2000 offers two phono inputs, including cartridge-loading and sensitivity options, multiple line inputs, two tape loops with dubbing, switchable filters, tone controls, and multiple preamplifier outputs. This flexibility made it suitable for elaborate analog systems while still allowing the tone and filter sections to be bypassed when a simpler signal path was preferred.
