Overview

This matched Pioneer system combines the SA-9500 integrated amplifier with the TX-9500 AM/FM stereo tuner, two substantial silver-face components from the middle of Pioneer’s celebrated 1970s era. Together they offer the appearance and flexibility of separates while retaining the convenience of an integrated amplifier at the heart of the system.

The SA-9500 is rated at 80 watts per channel into 8 ohms from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with no more than 0.1% total harmonic distortion. It includes two phono inputs, multiple line-level connections, dual tape monitoring, two sets of speaker outputs, tone controls, filters, and a pre-out/main-in connection that allows the amplifier sections to be used independently.

The SA-9500 was one of Pioneer’s better integrated amplifiers of the period, positioned below the later SA-9900 but built with the weight, controls, and conservative power rating enthusiasts associate with the brand’s strongest silver-era equipment. Its matching TX-9500 tuner completes the visual system and adds a serious analog radio section rather than a basic convenience tuner.

The TX-9500 uses an analog dial with both fixed and variable audio outputs. Published specifications include 1.5 µV FM sensitivity, 75 dB FM signal-to-noise ratio, and 20 Hz to 15 kHz FM frequency response. Its substantial construction and full-width faceplate make it a natural companion to the SA-9500.
