The McIntosh MSD4 is a late-1990s digital surround decoder designed to add multichannel processing to compatible McIntosh home-theater systems. Sold from approximately 1998 through 2000, it supports the major 5.1-channel formats of its era, including Dolby Digital AC-3 and DTS.

Rather than serving as a complete modern A/V receiver, the MSD4 was intended as a dedicated processor within a separates-based system. It decodes digital program material and supplies multichannel analog output for connection to a suitable controller, preamplifier, and power amplifiers.
