Cambridge Audio Edge A Integrated Amplifier
Cambridge Audio Edge A Integrated Amplifier
Overview
The Cambridge Audio Edge A is the flagship integrated amplifier from the Edge series, the range Cambridge Audio built to mark its 50th anniversary. It combines a preamplifier, a high-resolution DAC and 100W-per-channel power amplification in a single, beautifully minimal enclosure finished in Lunar Grey with the series' signature curved extruded-aluminium fascia and floating top plate.
Why This Model Matters
Edge A is Cambridge Audio's most detailed integrated amplifier and the distillation of the company's "Great British Sound" philosophy: nothing added, nothing taken away. It uses proprietary Class XA amplification, which shifts the crossover point out of the audible range for the clarity of Class A with far less heat, and a DC servo in place of signal-path capacitors to keep the audio path short and uncoloured. Twin toroidal transformers are mounted back-to-back so their electromagnetic fields cancel, reducing hum at any volume.
Highlights
- 100W RMS into 8 ohms (200W into 4 ohms) of Class XA amplification
- Twin opposing-symmetry toroidal transformers to cancel interference
- DC-coupled signal path with a DC servo instead of coupling capacitors
- High-resolution USB DAC up to 24-bit/384kHz PCM and DSD256
- aptX HD Bluetooth, HDMI ARC, plus coaxial and TOSLINK optical inputs
- Single dual-concentric control knob for volume and source
Who It's For
The Edge A is for the listener who wants one uncompromising box to run a high-end system: a music lover who values transparency, generous power and elegant restraint over rows of buttons. Pair it with a revealing set of loudspeakers and it will bring out detail you have not heard in familiar recordings.
