Arcam
Arcam A19
Arcam A19
Overview
The Arcam FMJ A19 is a British integrated amplifier introduced in the early 2010s. Rated at 50 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 90 watts per channel into 4 ohms, it was the entry point to Arcam’s Full Metal Jacket range while retaining the company’s long-standing emphasis on clean, musically coherent analogue amplification.
Why This Model Matters
Arcam designed the A19 as a modern descendant of the classic A60: straightforward, sensibly powered, and focused on sound quality rather than an overloaded feature list. It arrived at a time when many integrated amplifiers were adding onboard digital conversion, yet the A19 remained deliberately analogue. Six line-level inputs, a moving-magnet phono stage, preamplifier output, record output, and headphone connection gave it enough flexibility for a serious two-channel system.
The A19 earned strong contemporary reviews for its open, controlled, and cohesive presentation. Reviewers also noted that speaker matching mattered; with a suitable pair, the amplifier could sound more authoritative than its 50-watt rating suggested. Its low-noise phono input and pre-out also make it easy to build around, whether the system centers on vinyl or later adds an external power amplifier.

- 90 watts per channel into 4 ohms
- Class-AB analogue amplifier design
- Six line-level inputs
- Built-in moving-magnet phono stage
- Preamplifier, record, and headphone outputs

Who It’s For
The A19 suits listeners who want a refined, uncomplicated integrated amplifier for a high-quality two-channel system. It is particularly attractive for vinyl users who value a built-in phono stage but do not need onboard streaming or digital inputs. Paired thoughtfully with appropriate speakers, it remains a capable and well-regarded example of Arcam’s restrained British amplifier design.
